Bag containing £70000 stolen from bus
A BUS passenger travelling into Hampshire has had a bag stolen containing £70,000 of foreign cash.
The incident happened on a National Express coach journey that started at Heathrow airport at 4.45pm yesterday and ended in Portsmouth at 8pm.
The passenger, a man in his 80s who had come to the UK from Thailand to buy property, had the cash in Australian dollars and Thai baht in a black holdall bag, which was stored in the hold of the coach.
The bus made one stop in Winchester at the King Alfred statue at 6.30pm, one at Southampton Coach station at 7.15pm, shortly followed by a stop at Southampton University, before arriving at The Hard in Portsmouth.
Police said that when the man looked for his bag at the end of the journey, it was missing.
PC Leigh Waller, of Portsmouth Central police station, said: “We would like to hear from anyone who was on the coach, to eliminate them from our investigation, or from anyone else who may have been at any of the stopping points at the relevant times.
