150 new jobs on way to Halifax County

Lt. Gov. Bill Bolling will travel to Riverstone at 10:30 a.m. Thursday to join Halifax County Industrial Development Authority members in announcing Riverstone’s newest tenant and county’s newest major employer.

The announcement will be made at the Riverstone Centre, located at 1100 Confroy Drive in South Boston.

The unnamed utility company, to be identified during Thursday’s announcement has received tobacco commission backing for a $500,000 grant award to upfit space on the second floor at Riverstone for “Project Fan.”

According to the application, the space will be used for the purpose of general offices, staff cubicles, conference room, training room lobby and equipment room.

The lease term will be for five years beginning Jan. 31.

The authority will be responsible for upfitting 10,761 usable square feet for a rentable square footage of 13,689.

Once in awhile you come across home building products that are real finds.   You really want to keep them to yourself since their “stuff” is truly unique . Such is the case with the stone from Green River Stone Company. Originally, the quarry site was a freshwater lake rich with fish and fauna.  As the lake petrified, they fossilized in the stone.  How about enjoying a prehistoric treasure in your home at the morning breakfast counter and not just in the Museum of Natural History ? I am not kidding – Green River stone is the level of product people frame to hang as artwork.  We hope to have a custom end table made for our living room, which will be surfaced with a sturdy piece of glass to protect the fossil.  It will likely strike a few conversations a feature rarely found in home décor.
