Hydraulics close to shock win

STC - Stawell Hydraulics almost managed a shock win over ladder leaders and undefeated powerhouse, Perry's Footwear, as Stawell Tennis Club's Saturday afternoon competition resumed again on the weekend.

Unfortunately for Hydraulics, it was the mixed combinations of Mark Stainsby and Michaela Armer, Les McLeod and Lucy Pollock and Riley Adamson and Kirby Griffiths who saved the day for Perry's, winning their mixed sets comfortably.

Hydraulics went down by just six games.

Murray Hart and Jaiden Bach stood tall for their team, winning all three sets.

In the other match of the day, it was Stawell Retravision that overcame Stawell Sportspower to win by 18 games.

It was the Retravision women, led by Sue Blakey who proved too strong for their opponents.

Megs Mitchell and Jen Stevens both had their eye in, rarely missing a shot.

Clear the plate for auditions for STC production of 'The Man Who ...

South Texas College’s Theatre Program announces auditions for its comedic February 2012 production of Moss Hart and George S. Kaufman’s “The Man Who Came to Dinner.” Auditions take place Dec. 6 to 7, 2011 from 7 to 10 p.m. at South Texas College’s Cooper Center for Communication Arts Black Box Theatre located at 3201 W. Pecan Blvd. in McAllen. Call backs will be held at the same location and time on Dec. 8, 2011. All STC and Valley community members, 18 and over, are welcome to audition.

In “The Man Who Came to Dinner,” Sheridan Whiteside, having dined at the home of the Stanleys, slips on their doorstep, breaking his hip. A tumultuous six weeks of confinement follow including dining with ex-convicts, a $784 phone bill, penguins in the library, an octopus in the cellar, 10,000 cockroaches in the kitchen, the arrival of a mummy case, a whirlwind romance and the planning of a trip around the world.

A cold reading from the script will be made available at the audition. The director, Joel Jason Rodriguez, is looking for a cast of 15 men and nine women. “The Man Who Came to Dinner” is scheduled to take the STC Cooper Center for Communication Arts Main Stage Feb. 23 to 26, 2012.
