Winter is here — experts decode the knits of this season
Winters have settled in and the climate is chillier than usual — a pleasant change from the hot and humid weather in Mumbai. Along with the chill in the air, one thing that changes is our wardrobe. Sweatshirts and jackets become the new black. Cottons are fast replaced with knits and cotton wools. This season though, experts give knits, a thumbs up.
Says designer Lina Tipnis, “Mumbai doesn’t have an extreme climate. Winters here can drop to minimum temperature 16 degrees and heavy-weight viscose modal in 120 gms works perfect. It keeps you comfortably warm and cozy. Shawls in knits are preferred over woolens. Likewise knit scarves and stoles work better than wool for Mumbai climate any day.”
Young designer Sabah Khan feels that knits work best for chilly winters rather than the cold wave kind of climate that North India faces. She says, “Knits are light and can be easily made to fit any look — scarves, oversized tees and jackets. They give a classic and comfy feel to the very casual look. This season, they are a status piece. Many international designers too have had entire collections based on knits.
