  1. I am HOOKED! : )
I am SO impressed with Stitch 'n Bitch Crochet. "The Happy Hooker" book is great. If you are a beginner, there is a comprehensive and very clear intro part with all the stitches very well explained and well illustrated. Nice guide to reading patterns, finishing your projects, blocking, etc....
  2. too many errors in patterns
BE WARNED! there are too many mistakes in this book. if u dont believe me, look at the online "corrections and clarifications" page. my advice: dont begin ANY project in this book b4 looking at this corrections page. the ratio of patterns with mistakes to the mistake-free patterns is...

Broomstick Lace Summer Scarf - Crochet Spot

Alright Rachel, you’ve got me. I will give broomstick lace another try because this scarf is so pretty! I have tried it a few times now, and it is just so tedious and unnatural for me that I always give up. I can do it correctly, it just takes me ages and I end up throwing the yarn, hook and needle across the room in frustration! I think part of my problem is the way I hold the hook. I learned to hold the hook in kind of an unusual way when I learned to crochet at a very young age, and it is just not conducive to broomstick lace at all. But I will give it another go!!!

Beautiful yarn, by the way!

I just started the pattern and it’s turn out great! It’s pretty easy to work up once you get started. I’m a broomstick beginner and the “Before you begin tips” in the pattern helps out a lot. I think if you don’t know how to do the broomstick stitch then you can use this pattern and it’ll teach you!

Itanos Summer Scarf Crochet Pattern « Handmade by Anne Potter

For summer vacations, this drapey scarf is a perfectly-packable, and always-chic accessory. I wanted to design a piece that gives a nod to the extra fabric trend of drape-front vests, but with less fabric and more versatility.  Hello, summer!

For this easy-going piece, I used a mercerized cotton yarn and designed a simple pattern that reminds me of a Greek fishing net.  Just throw this scarf in your beach bag and take your cami from day to (clubbing all) night.  And this pattern is just as laid-back as the piece: perfect for summer crocheting!

Special thanks to Magen who inspired this easy, wearable summer scarf.
